I listened to the audiobook, which really enhanced my enjoyment of the story and is one reason I gave it 4 stars. The character voices were just right. They pulled me into their stories, absorbed me and moved me. I love the thread of joy and hope that runs through the book, despite the uglier circumstances. And I love the message about speaking up and not letting others keep you in any predetermined place. Perhaps things tied up a little too conveniently at the end, but I'm a sap for happy endings and I liked knowing that the characters would continue on to new challenges. It's never too late to change and it's never too late to try something different - that's the ultimate lesson.
