It's hard to describe how I feel about this book. It's billed as horror (a la Stephen King), but that turned out to be a relatively minor part of the story. Mostly it's about the day-to-day life of a Mormon family struggling to adapt after moving to a new community. I've heard that the author based the characters on his own family and I can easily believe that because the interactions, particularly between the husband and wife, sometimes made me feel as if I were eavesdropping on a private conversation.
I liked the book overall, but the ending is heartbreaking if you are a parent.
