The Shelters of Stone
(book 5) wasn't great and I didn't expect this one to be any better, but I needed to complete this series that I started so long ago. I guess what's most disappointing is that so many potential story lines introduced in the series were never followed through. We never find out who Ayla's people were, what happened to Durc, or whether the Clan are ever really recognized as human by the majority of the "others". Instead we learn that the whole purpose of Ayla's existence, her trials and special insights, is to reveal the final gift of the Mother - that babies are the result of sex between men and women. I kid you not.
Well, I wanted to know how the series ended and now I do.
